When did Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? first air?

The popular game show first aired on September 4, 1998, with quizmaster Chris Tarrant.

It continued its run until February 11, 2014.

In 1999, one edition received , which was a third of the British population at the time.

Although generally the contestants on the quiz show were members of the general public, the show also featured celebrity editions on special occasions.

The show received significant media coverage in September 2001 when Charles Ingram participated on the show.

He managed to win the £1million prize.

After the producers noticed suspicious behaviour, it was revealed that Ingram had been cheating during the show.

Ingram, his wife and a fellow contestant, Tecwen Whittock, came under media scrutiny when it was revealed that they had been using a coughing technique to signal when Charles was repeating a correct answer.

The new series based on the cheating scandal was released on Monday, April 13.

The three-part series stars Matthew Macfadyen as Charles Ingram, Sian Clifford as Diana Ingram, and Michael Sheen as Chris Tarrant.
