Wayne Rooney hits back at England critics and insists: I play where I am told to
Early results show the trackers help reduce the time between discharge and bed being ready from four to two-and-a-half hours
WAYNE ROONEY insists he plays where he is told for England - not just where he wants.
Rooney has come under fire for his Three Lions displays after former boss Sam Allardyce admitted the captain plays where he wants.
But the Manchester United star dismissed suggestions he decides where he is playing, not the manager, as he prepares for the World Cup qualifier against Malta on Saturday.
Rooney said: "It’s getting tired the question of whether I am playing striker, midfield or number ten.
"It's always the same answer, I play where the manager wants me to play.
"I don’t pick myself, I have never picked myself as an England player. I play to instructions"
England took part in their first training session with new manager Gareth Southgate today, just a week after Allardyce was sacked in disgrace.
Rooney has already been assured by Southgate that he will remain as England captain, and is expected to lead the side at Wembley on Saturday.
The United ace insists the change of manager has nothing to do with the 23-man squad of players who reported for duty at St George's Park on Tuesday.
But he does admit the departure of Allardyce after just one match in charge was a shame.
He added: "It’s a shame, everyone could see how excited Sam was for the job, he came in and showed that enthusiasm to the players.
