Half-naked ‘ISIS fanatic’ is paraded for the cameras after being captured by Iraqi forces liberating Mosul
Iraqi Forces are sifting through the rubble of the Old City after the Prime Minister declared 'victory' over the twisted death cult
A SUSPECTED ISIS thug is pulled from the rubble and paraded through the dusty streets of Mosul’s Old City by brave Iraqi soldiers.
Wearing only a pair of trousers, the man is pictured being marched through the derelict area of the town by victorious troops – his face and chest covered in dirt.
Yesterday, Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi arrived in Mosul – the city where ISIS declared their so-called caliphate – and announced "total victory" over the brainwashed death cult.
Iraqi forces have been sifting through the ruins of the Old City and detaining the few extremists who still remain.
LA Times journalist Nabih Bulos and said ISIS fighters were using “everything they have” to maintain control of the Old City.
He described the nine-month long battle as “Stalingrad-esque” in a reference to the failed World War Two Nazi offensive to take the southern Russian city in which around 800,000 people were either killed, wounded or captured.
He added: “Almost no building is left unharmed. So the place is a morass of masonry, and twisted metal.
“The soldiers are creeping along but they're also dealing with snipers and suicide bombers.”
Bulos described the sordid tactics of the twisted ISIS militants confirming that extremists were launching suicide attacks in a desperate bid to defend the so-called caliphate.
He said: “We're talking about the use of 23mm guns, so the stuff that's used for anti-aircraft.
“We're talking about swarms of suicide bombers, and they're not using car bombs now because there's just no space, but they're using snipers by the ton. It's been really very hard going."
The collapse of the group’s terror HQ in Iraq comes after waves of airstrikes and fierce hand-to-hand fighting amid the ancient city’s blasted buildings.
Iraq’s government declared victory in the “liberated” city this afternoon, the Prime Minister's office said, in the biggest defeat yet over ISIS.
Retreating jihadis were seen jumping into the River Tigris as their defensive line completely collapsed under fire from soldiers on the ground and bombs from the air dropped by Western backed coalition air forces.
PM Haider al-Abad “arrived in the liberated city of Mosul and congratulates the heroic fighters and the Iraqi people on the achievement of the major victory,” his office said in a statement.
The fighting did not seem to be completely over yet, with gunfire still audible in Mosul and airstrikes hitting the city around the time the premier’s office released the statement.
The declared victory in Mosul marks an epic milestone for the Iraqi security forces, who had crumbled in the face of an ISIS onslaught across Iraq in 2014.
