Tottenham to meet Sporting Lisbon bosses and thrash out deal for Adrien Silva in coming days
Spurs continue their pursuit to sign experienced midfielder, despite rejection of initial offer as Portuguese outfit refuse to budge
TOTTENHAM will meet this week with Sporting Lisbon directors and Adrien Silva's agents in an attempt to secure their first signing of the summer.
Spurs will be aware of the £26.5million price-tag attached to the midfielder, with the Portuguese side refusing to sell their skipper for any less.
The Portugal international is under contract at Sporting Lisbon until the summer of 2020, with a release clause of €45m.
Silva was also a target of Everton transfer plans, but Spurs remain the favourites to bring him to the Premier League.
Leicester came close to signing the 28-year-old international last summer, but the deal fell through and The Foxes are no longer showing interest.
The addition of Silva to the Wembley Stadium would provide immediate competition in the midfield, with Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele both contenders for the first-team spot.
Silva would bring an abundance of Champions League experience and a winning mentality to the club. He has won the domestic cup twice and was a key element to Portugal's Euro 2016 winning side.
The 28-year-old has played his entire professional career with Sporting Lisbon after making his first-team debut at the age of 18.
Silva has made 165 appearances for his club, scoring 31 times throughout.
If this deal is completed following the meeting, then this will be Tottenham's first prominent move of the summer.
However, following the departure of Romelu Lukaku from Goodison Park, Spurs will need to act fast to deny Everton the chance of stealing the deal.
