RED'S COVER UP

Labour Party hid allegations about Jared O’Mara for more than A MONTH

Disgraced MP's vile online history was acknowledged by Labour Party officials in a dossier delivered on the 20th of September, but a spokesperson claimed 'nothing came to the party central office until Monday'

THE Labour Party covered up allegations about Jared O’Mara for more than a month, The Sun can reveal.

Party chiefs were made aware of vile online rants made by the disgraced Sheffield Hallam MP on 20 September — but a spokesman claimed yesterday that they knew nothing before Monday of this week.

Jeremy Corbyn’s spokesman insisted: “The party headquarters was not informed of any of that and if it had been we would have taken action on that.”

But a dossier was sent to the Labour Party last month — and officials acknowledged its receipt.

No investigation was launched until this Tuesday and the whip was not withdrawn from O’Mara until yesterday.

Probed why it took so long to suspend the MP, the spokesman said: “It was obviously heinous in 2002 and 2004 ... the point being we weren’t aware of the significant later material”.

He added: “when the initial material came to light an investigation was launched.”

And insisted “as far as I am aware there was no knowledge... Nothing came to the party central office until Monday."

But last night when confronted by The Sun, Labour were forced to admit that they had been aware of some of the allegations for weeks.

They said: “Last month, our press office received a partial report of some of Jared O’Mara’s 2004 online comments, which have subsequently received coverage in the press.”

They added: “He was spoken to by officials and subsequently issued a response that day.”

But no investigation was launched into the worrying behaviour as they suggested it would have been earlier in the day.
