Manchester City to give young right-back Pablo Maffeo first-team chance after impressing on loan at Girona
PABLO MAFFEO is set to be handed his Manchester City first-team chance next season after a stunning loan spell away.
The 20-year-old Spanish full-back is impressing during a season-long move to City's La Liga sister club Girona.
Pep Guardiola has been impressed by the ex-Espanyol ace after scouts watched his last two matches in victories over Real Madrid and Levante.
And City are now planning to take him on their pre-season tour next summer to integrate him into the first-team picture.
He will also become part of the main squad, and be in Guardiola's full-back rotation along with Kyle Walker and Danilo.
An Etihad source said: “Pablo is all set for his chance at City next year. He is in his third spell in three years at Girona and impressing.
“The club have sent scouts to watch his last two games and there has been some rave reviews with Pep very happy with his progress.
“He will be involved in the summer tour plans and then become part of the first-team next season. He is at that level now.”

Maffeo made his breakthrough at City last season after winning the man of the match award during a 1-0 defeat at rivals Manchester United.
He has been at the Etihad since he was 15 and has made three competitive appearances in that time after coming through their academy.
