Tesla reveals new electric truck – and stuns world with new 250mph Roadster 2 sports car

TESLA has revealed its new electric truck - plus a surprise 250mph sports car.

Tesla boss Elon Musk claims the super-safe truck is "impossible" to jack-knife and will have a 500-mile electric range.

But it was the incredible Roadster 2 that stunned crowds promising 0-60mph acceleration in under two seconds - making it the fastest production car in the world.

The first 1,000 Founder Series models - which won't go on sale until after 2020 - will cost £150,000.

And the open top - which has a lift off roof to store in the boot and seats four - promises a staggering range of 630 miles from its 200kWh battery packs.

The Roadster 2 - which will frighten supercar makers like Ferrari and Porsche - follows the original model that was Tesla's first venture into cars back in 2008.

Musk said: "The point of doing this is to give a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars.

“Driving a gasoline sports car is going to feel like a steam engine with a side of quiche.”

Musk also claimed it'd be "economic suicide" to continue with diesel trucks - with convoys of the Tesla truck cheaper than shipping goods by rail.

It'll be 20 per cent cheaper to own and run than a gas-guzzling diesel and the 500-mile range will be with a full load and at max motorway speeds.

The truck claims its more aerodynamic than a Bugatti Chiron - and around twice as streamlined as a regular diesel lorry thanks to its bullet shaped nose.

It can tow a gross weight of 36 tonnes and it can hit 65mph when it towing up a five degree hill - faster than a current diesel that maxes out at 45mph

It also features "explosion-proof" glass, autopilot modes and lane-keep tech, according to Musk.

Tesla will roll out a network of "megachargers" for the trucks to plug into to give them 400 miles in just 30 minutes.

The truck is due to go into production later in 2019 - so long as Tesla can fix its factory issues that have delayed the Model 3 so far.
