The Wombats want Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to model their merch – after the band’s social team mocked the superstar couple
THE Wombats are releasing their fourth studio album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, early next year - and think Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are the perfect pair to promote their new merch.
The indie favourites recently returned with catchy new single Lemon To A Knife Fight and posted a picture of the superstar couple on their official Twitter account wearing soon-to-be released jumpers with the album artwork on.
Fans were amused by the gentle trolling, but frontman Matthew "Murph" Murphy insists their was nothing hurtful behind the post.
Speaking to The Sun Online, he said: "There's absolutely zero underlying meaning to that. I think it's just our social media guys were having a good time that day [laughs].
"But hopefully we'll get them in the sweaters very shortly. I think they're [jumpers] quite cool and they've got a 60s Saint Laurent vibe I think, so maybe that's something Kim and Kanye would actually go for."
Murph is now surrounded by beautiful people after relocating to Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles last year.
The Liverpudlian musician says he isn't part of any Hollywood celebrity clique but has encountered A-list names while out and about in the city.
"I have had some pretty ridiculous run-ins," he said. "Some I'm probably more comfortable to talk about the others [laughs]. Everywhere, you just walk into a bar and Charlize Theron's sat in the corner. It's a very weird place, but it is accepted and people don't care."
One particularly amusing tale involves a road rage incident with Fantastic Beasts star and Hollywood bad boy Colin Farrell.
Murph explained: "I live in Laurel Canyon and I was driving over the hill to Studio City to go to the gym. You've got to go down a ramp. I was driving in my lane and this massive blacked out Escalade was driving down the centre of these two lanes coming up to exit. I put on the breaks leaned out my window and said what the f**k are you doing? [laughs] He rolled down his tinted windows really slowly, he had sunglasses on and cap and it was Colin Farrell eyeballing me. I was like I'll shut up now and drove around him very sheepishly."
Next year is shaping up to be a big one for the band with a 13-date UK tour in March and a support slot with Weezer and The Pixies in the US - which Murph described as "a dream come true."
The band played triumphant sets at this year's Reading and Leeds Festivals as well as a chief headline slot at Community Festival. They drew huge crowds and Murph described the gigs as something of a renaissance for the band, hinting at good things to come.
