Who is Lucy Worsley? Historian and Blitz Spirit presenter
LUCY Worsley is an author and TV presenter known for her love of history.
Worsley became a household name after her successful BBC Suffragettes documentary.
Who is Lucy Worsley?
Born December 18, 1973, Lucy Worsley is an English historian, author and television presenter.
The 47-year-old graduated from Oxford with a BA first-class honours degree in ancient and modern history.
She is also the chief curator of Historic Royal Palaces and married her architect husband Mark Hines in November 2011.
Lucy has written numerous books including Lady Mary, Jane Austen At Home, A Very British Murder and My Name is Victoria.
She published her first novel Eliza Rose, a historical fiction, in 2016.
In July 2015, she was made an honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Sussex (where she completed her doctorate).
In 2018, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to History and to Heritage.
What TV shows is she known for?
Lucy has presented a slew of historical documentaries for the BBC including A Very British Romance and the three-part series, Six Wives.
She returned to BBC One in 2018 with a programme to mark 100 years since women over the age of 30 who owned property, were allowed to vote.
The documentary entitled Suffragettes showed Lucy's journey into the actions of the women who campaigned for the vote as their fight descended from a peaceful protest into anarchy.
She has also fronted British History's Biggest Fibs, Jane Austen: Behind Closed Doors and A Very British Murder.
What was her feud with David Starkey about?
Lucy was engaged in a fierce feud with fellow historian, David Starkey, after taking offence to his claim that female historians had reduced Henry VIII's life to a "soap opera".
The Suffragettes host responded by describing David as a misogynist who looks like a "cross owl in the pictures on his own book covers”.
A year later, the feud was reignited when Dr Starkey took a swipe at “usually quite pretty” female historians.
After a five-year war of words, the two managed to bury the hatchet to co-present the 2015 BBC Two documentary Britain's Tudor Treasure: A Night at Hampton Court.
