Mertens, 30, is hoping to inspire others to follow in his footsteps and take on charitable causes.

Earlier this month it was revealed he fed pizzas to the homeless, rescued a dog shelter from closure and even 'married' a young cancer patient he had met at hospital.

On one night in December, Mertens decided to buy a stack of pizzas and hand them out to people in Naples.
