WIVES and girlfriends of England stars fear being left without security at the World Cup after an apparent U-turn by the FA.
Some have been forced to try to sort out their own bodyguards this summer in Russia.
But certain security firms may not go amid fears of a backlash over the suspected Russian poison plot.
The FA traditionally acts as a travel agent before tournaments, helping Wags organise travel, accommodation and security.
But two weeks ago the players’ partners were told the same service would not be offered this year.
A football source said: “The Wags are not impressed with the U-turn.
In previous major tournaments, the FA would help set up the various requirements but for some reason this year it’s been pulled at the last minute.
“With less than three months to go, some have now had to take matters into their own hands.
“Security is the main concern. Hotels and transport can be easily sorted but making sure they and their families are safe is the big issue.
“One security firm said they wouldn’t travel to Russia in the current climate.
“A Russian firm said bodyguards without guns would be pointless. Another said a gun wouldn’t be enough.”
Wags who had been expected to travel include Dele Alli’s girlfriend Ruby Mae, Jamie Vardy’s wife Rebekah and Chris Smalling’s partner Sam Cooke.
A base at Saint Petersburg is said to be current favourite, a 30-mile drive away from the England team’s hotel in Repino.
