World Cup 2018 fans to be shown VAR replays on big screens inside stadiums

CONTROVERSIAL VAR replays will be shown on big screens inside the grounds at the Russia World Cup.

The video assistant referee system has been hit with heavy criticism after its use in domestic competition but will still be used at the summer tournament.

A major issue has been confusion among fans in the grounds when the referee is making a decision using televisions at pitch-side.

Fifa have now taken the step of showing the footage on the big screens so supporters can see why a decision has been made.

But due to fears of the crowd influencing the decision, the replays will only be shown after the decision has been reached.

VAR came into play this season in the FA Cup but has also been used in Germany and Italy for a number of years.

There have been incidents such as during the Liverpool clash against West Brom earlier in the season that have put question marks next to its use.

Russia's World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia on June 14 will be the first game the system could be used after Fifa gave the go ahead for the technology last month.
