Boss Jorge Sampaoli had Manchester City ace Aguero up top at practice, with Messi and Di Maria playing just behind him.

Independiente midfielder Maximiliano Meza was deployed at the apex of a three-man midfield, which Javier Mascherano and Lucas Biglia anchored.

Sampaoli switched Milan's Biglia with Giovani Lo Celso during the session, suggesting that Paris Saint-Germain starlet, 22, is in the mix to start on Saturday at Moscow's Spartak Stadium.

Manchester City's Nicolas Otamendi and Manchester United's Marcos Rojo were centre-back partners, flanked by Benfica right-back Eduardo Silva and Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico.

Second-choice Chelsea keeper Willy Cabellero was between the sticks after United stopper Sergio Romero was ruled out of the tournament through a knee injury.

West Ham ace Manuel Lanzini was expected to start ahead of Meza, but he was ruled out of the World Cup after damaging a ligament in his knee on Friday.

Lanzini — who scored five goals in 29 appearances for the Hammers last season — has won three caps for Argentina, scoring his first goal in March's 2-0 victory over Italy.
