ILKAY GUNDOGAN had his car smashed up - in apparent revenge for meeting Turkey's president.
Manchester City's German World Cup star has Turkish family roots.
But the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder sparked widespread anger in Germany when he met Turkey's head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan in London last month.
Arsenal's Mesut Ozil, similarly German born to Turkish parents, was also at the meeting.
German police have now revealed that Gundogan's Mercedes GLE was trashed near the national team's hotel in Cologne on June 7.
The luxury motor had its windscreen smashed and bodywork damaged.
Gundogan, 27, made a complaint against "person or persons unknown" to cops.
The player was jeered at every touch of the ball during Germany's 2-1 warm-up win over Saudi Arabia in Leverkusen the next day.
A German police spokesman said: "We can't rule out a political motive for this incident.
"We have studied film from security cameras."
