German press sing England’s praises after last-gasp win over Tunisia and moan ‘We wish we had Kane’

Three Lions skipper produced a brilliant display for his side while the Germans toiled against Mexico in a deserved defeat

ENGLAND'S old foes Germany could not help but cast an envious glance at Harry Kane after last night's performance.

The two-goal skipper led by example and took his chances to ensure his side turned a patchy performance against Tunisia into three points.

Germany, meanwhile, looked toothless in attack as Mexico secured a 1-0 victory - a flattering result given the reigning champs' dire performance.

Kane made headlines across both countries this morning, with Bild proclaiming "We wish we had Kane!"

Their column added: "There's something different about England at this World Cup.

"They played like Germany should play, fast and direct.

There was, of course, a cheeky dig at their rivals - describing Kyle Walker's foul to concede  a penalty as "classic England".

But the overwhelming reaction was of respect for Gareth Southgate's side getting the job done - something the Germans are renowned for.

ZDF declared a "lucky but perfect start to the World Cup for England", while Sueddeutsche Zeitung focused on Kane.

It stated: "If Kane keeps his current form, he should be challenging Messi and Ronaldo for the golden boot."

Finally, Der Spiegel added: "Even if they aren't good enough to win the title this year, in two years' time, when they have a bit more experience and a few more young talents have come up, England will be ready to win the European Championship."
