JOHN TERRY has hit back after he was slammed online for a "sexist" social media post.
The former England and Chelsea captain had posted a photo during Portugal's 1-0 win over Morocco with the caption: "Having to watch this game with no volume."
Some people saw that as a dig at BBC Sport commentator Vicki Sparks, who became the first woman to commentate on a World Cup game on British TV.
The image quickly spread across social media with one saying: "Not surprised. John Terry has always been trash."
Another wrote: "John Terry is a f***ing scumbag" and another wrote: "Who'd have thought John Terry is a sexist p***k?"
But Terry took to Instagram to explain that it was all a misunderstanding.
Speaking directly to camera, he said: "I just wanted to address an Instagram story that I posted earlier today that I have since deleted.
"I came home from holiday at the Maldives today around two o'clock, to find there's no audio in the house working whatsoever.
"Since then they've been able to fix it, so everything's working again now but I was watching the game with no volume simply, posted that on my social media and people have run away and kind of made up their own stories and run with it and it's gathered a bit of momentum on social media and also in the newspapers as well.
"Just wanted to clarify, completely untrue and simply not the case so I hope that clears up the matter and we can move forward from there."
