World Cup 2018: Kylian Mbappe becomes France’s youngest ever goalscorer in a major tournament

KYLIAN MBAPPE made history today when he became France's youngest ever scorer at a major tournament.

The wonderkid scored the only goal of the game as France beat Peru 1-0 in their second World Cup game.

The win ensured France have made it through the group stages with a game still to play - Peru, however, have been eliminated from the tournament.

Mbappe, who is expected to be unveiled as PSG's permanent signing from Monaco after the World Cup, broke a 20-year record.

Back in 1998, the year France won the World Cup as hosts, a certain David Trezeguet netted for Les Bleus against Saudi Arabia aged 20 years and 246 days.

But tonight in Ekaterinburg, Mbappe broke Peruvian hearts when he bagged the winner at the tender age of 19 years and 183 days.

And in a touching moment, the man who's record he broke clapped on from the stands dressed dapper in a grey suit.

Mbappe was left free to poke home a shot from team-mate Olivier Giroud, which took a wild ricochet off defender Alberto Rodriguez after 34 minutes of virtual one way traffic and extravagant showboating by the new kid on le block.

Mbappe’s loan at Paris Saint-Germain is about to become permanent, for around £190million, and against Peru he gave the sort of performance which showed why he commands such a fee.

France’s showman was substituted in the 75th minute - well, with this being an 8pm kick off local time it was probably the youngster’s bedtime.
