The Manchester United shot-stopper had already conceded one goal in Spain's final group stage match.

Morocco took the lead when Khalid Boutaib raced through the unorganised defence and slotted the ball through De Gea's legs.

He was the only goalkeeper at the World Cup to play two games and not make a single save.

But the 27-year-old finally stopped a shot when Boutaib attempted to double his tally 25th minute.

De Gea dived acrobatically and parried the strike to safety.

Fans went into frenzy on Twitter after witnessing the 27-year-old end his torrid run.

Pundit Gary Lineker said: "David de Gea has made his first save of the tournament."

One Twitter user added: "Shout out to De Gea who's just made his first save of the tournament, a mere 2 and a half games in."
