Germany apologise for World Cup shambles and admit they deserved to go crashing out

A dramatic defeat to South Korea meant the reigning champs were sent packing in the group stage

GERMANY have apologised to their fans for their World Cup humiliation - and admitted they deserved to crash out.

The reigning champions lost 2-0 to South Korea yesterday to seal their fate as Sweden and Mexico progressed to the last-16.

Via their official Twitter page, the team said: "Dear fans, we feel just as disappointed as you. The World Cup only comes around every four years and we expected so much more from us.

"We're sorry for not playing like world champions, and as painful as it is, we deserve to be out...

"Your support across the globe was incredible. We celebrated together in 2014, but sometimes in football you have to accept defeat and admit that your opponents were better.

"Congrats to and , and of course to on their win. Thanks to Russia for your hospitality!"

And after leading his country out of a barren spell, Jogi Low insisted he would not allow them to return to the dark ages.

He said: "Do I think this will bring about a dark time in German football? No, I don't think so.
