World Cup 2018: Sergei Ignashevich’s bizarre defending costs Russia a goal for the second time in just days
Defender gifted Spain the lead vs Russia in the last-16 tie just days after his antics handed Uruguay's Luis Suarez an equally strange goal
SERGEI IGNASHEVICH bagged one of the most bizarre own goals in World Cup history as he again made a big name for himself for all the wrong reasons.
The Russian defender was not even looking at a cross as he shoved Spain legend Sergio Ramos out of the way - and the ball bounced in off his trailing leg to make the 38-year-old the oldest own-goal scorer in the history of the tournament.
Pundits slated Ignashevich for that opener in today's World Cup last-16 tie - just like he was condemned last week for conceding an equally-strange goal.
On that occasion the CSKA Moscow star pushed a defensive wall out of the way to give Luis Suarez's free-kick a direct route into the bottom corner.
Uruguay turned that howler into a 3-0 win in the final group game.
And today Ignashevich's unwelcome intevention left Russia up against it - but fortunately for him and the hosts they managed to equalise before going on and winning the game on penalties.
BBC pundit Kevin Kilbane said: "It's poor defending. You're not looking at the ball. At least look at the ball!
"He just wanted to throw Pigue [it was Ramos] to the ground. He got what he deserved."
But Gerard Pique's handball enabled Artem Dyzuba to slot Russia level from the penalty spot just before the break.
And that proved enough to take the game to penalties and keep Russia in the tournament.
