During the shoot-out, De Gea was unable to stop a single penalty.
And he didn't make a single save in normal or extra time either.
Across 120 minutes Russia had seven shots at goal - but only one was on target - Dzyuba's penalty that went in.
His inability to make an impact for Spain came after it was noted he had failed to make a save after two games of the tournament - the only stopper in the whole tournament to have not done so. He had conceded four goals from four shots.
His first save of the tournament came in the third game - a 2-2 draw with Morocco.
Many would have backed De Gea to shine in the shoot-out but he could do nothing to stop the Russians.
He dived the correct way for the first but couldn't stop it, went the wrong way for the second and saw the third squeeze under his body.
The Manchester United player dived to his right for the fourth but the penalty was sent down the middle and that was enough for Russia and De Gea's last action of the World Cup.
