World Cup 2018: Granit Xhaka blasted as ‘disgraceful’ and ‘fake’ as Phil Neville blames Arsenal midfielder for Sweden’s winner
The 25-year-old let Emil Forsberg glide past him as he netted the only goal of the game during Switzerland's last-16 clash
ARSENAL midfielder Granit Xhaka has been lambasted by Phil Neville after Switzerland were knocked out of the World Cup by Sweden.
The 25-year-old was branded as “disgraceful” and “fake” by the ex-Manchester United defender after allowing Emil Forsberg to get past him.
Xhaka went to ground too early as the RB Leipzig star glided past him, before he netted the only goal of the game during the last-16 clash.
The former Borussia Monchengladbach ace has often been the subject of criticism since joining the Gunners in 2016, and he was once again called out over his performance.
Speaking on BBC after the match, the England women’s boss said: “I mean Xhaka, we’ll go onto Xhaka in a minute, disgraceful.
“The goal itself. He just went to the floor, he let the lad Forsberg go past him too easily too many times in the second half.
“He cost his team the goal, because Forsberg comes inside and he just literally lets him waltz across him. Does nothing. He’s a holding midfield player. He’s fake.
“He’s probably sat in the dressing room at the end of the game thinking ‘I’ve had a good game today, I’ve passed it to my own players a couple of times sideways.’
“I just think we see this week in, week out… I think I see this for Arsenal week in, week out. For me he’s just not my type of player.”
And his display against the Scandinavian nation was also the talking point on social media.
