World Cup 2018: Germany star Toni Kroos broke Swedish hearts with incredible 95th-minute goal
It was ultimately not enough to stop the defending champions going out at the group stage but proved the lone bright spark in their doomed campaign
GERMANY'S involvement in this year's World Cup will be remembered for one reason: their complete and utter abject failure.
Bottom of the group and out far too soon, their lone bright moment came from Toni Kroos, when he curled in a beautiful goal to secure a last-gasp win over Sweden - who face England in the quarter-finals on Saturday. Neil Custis was there to witness it first-hand.
There were 18 seconds left of the five minutes of injury time added when Kroos struck.
Germany were drawing 1-1 with Sweden and having lost their opening game to Mexico qualification for the next phase looked like being taken out of their hands.
Then with the seconds ticking down Germany were awarded a free kick wide outside the box.
Kroos touched the ball off to Marco Reus who stopped it allowing Kroos a bit more of an angle to curl an incredible shot into the far side of the goal sparking wild celebrations.
