COMMENTATOR Jonathan Pearce made an almighty boob on national television when he mistakenly described Brazil and Belgium’s World Cup quarter-final clash as an “FA Cup” tie.
The BBC pundit was introducing the match on live TV as the two teams lined up for their respective national anthems.
But Pearce made the mistake of calling the game an “FA Cup quarter-final” rather than a World Cup quarter-final.
He said: “As we get ready for the anthems of Brazil and Belgium and this FA Cup quarter-final, it could be an epic.”
And predictably, people quickly took to Twitter to share the news.
@JordonMcGhee said: “When the commentator says the FA Cup quarter final.”
@pbakes77 wrote: “Apparently, according to Jonathan Pearce, Brazil v Belgium is the FA Cup quarter final!”
@silver_monki noted: “Commentator referring to Brazil vs Belgium as a ‘FA Cup quarter final’. Most expensive FA Cup final ever.”
@karentworton said: “Thought I was watching the World Cup but our BBC commentator has just said the FA Cup! That’s not something Gareth would do.”
@andy_hennessy added: “What an FA Cup, sorry, World Cup QF this could be.”
