When did England last reach the semi-final of the World Cup?
Most of the current team weren’t born the last time England reached the last-four at a World Cup.
That came in Italia 90 – 28 years ago – where England beat Cameroon 3-2 in the quarter-finals to set up a showdown with West Germany.
After a 1-1 draw, the game went to penalties – and we all know what happened next.
The Germans went on to beat Argentina in the final, while England finished fourth after losing 2-1 to hosts Italy in the third-placed play-off.

Match of the day host Gary Lineker was also in the squad along with Mark Wright, Paul Parker, Des Walker, Stuart Pearce, Chris Waddle, David Platt, Peter Beardsley and, of course, Paul Gascoigne.
Lineker scored in the 80th minute to level at 1-1 after Andrea Brehme had put the Germans ahead.
After a goalless extra-time,the game went to penalties with both Waddle and Pearce failing to score.
