World Cup 2018: Jordan Pickford’s stunning saves vs Sweden lead to brilliant memes flooding Twitter
Everton's goalkeeper prevented the Three Lions from losing their lead
JORDAN PICKFORD helped send England into the World Cup semi-final — and social media fell in love with him.
The Everton goalkeeper denied Sweden three times with stunning saves to keep the Three Lions' two-goal lead.
Pickford has only conceded three goals in the five games in Russia so far.
And there seemed to be no way anything was going to get past him in Samara.
After Harry Maguire gave England a 1-0 lead in the first-half, that advantage was almost snatched in the second half.
Two minutes after the break a cross into Marcus Berg was powered down but Pickford got low to his left and denied Sweden.
The second stunning save came 10 minutes later when Pickford, once again, had to get down low to stop a powerful drive from Viktor Claesson.
Pickford then came to England's rescue again when he tipped over an effort from Berg on a sweeping counter attack.
It was Pickford's first clean sheet of the tournament, which will put his name into the record books.
At 24 years and 122 days, he becomes the youngest England goalkeeper ever to keep a clean sheet at a World Cup.
This was just the latest of a string of stunning stops Pickford has produced in Russia to send England in to the last four of the World Cup.
Southgate's No1 also produced the emphatic moment against Colombia on Monday that helped send England through on penalties.
His shoot-out heroics, with a one-handed stop against Carlos Bacca, sees the Three Lions reach the last four for the first time since 1996.
They will face either Croatia or Russia in the semi-final on Wednesday.
