ENGLAND fans thought it was coming home after Kieran Trippier fired them into the lead against Croatia with just FIVE minutes on the clock.
Tottenham's right-back hero curled in a beautiful free-kick to send Three Lions supporters wild while also becoming just the third Englishman to score in a World Cup semi-final after Sir Bobby Charlton and Gary Lineker.
Some fluid build-up play saw Dele Alli fouled on the outside of the Croatian box just moments into the match.
Ashley Young and Trippier both stood over the ball as the likes of Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson looked to make themselves known in the Croatian wall.
But not even the tallest defence in the world had a chance of stopping Trippier's beauty, which curled over the jumpers and sailed just under the post to send England fans into raptures.
However, the Three Lions ended up leaving with their tails between their legs after Croatia scored an extra-time winner to book their place in the final against France.
But that didn't stop people from taking to Twitter to express their delight at the dream opening sequence.
Former Spurs teammate Ryan Mason wrote: "Tripps! Love you."
Ledley King tweeted: "Yesss @trippier2 take a bow son."
Tim Cahill added: "What a goal. England are on fire."
Here's some of the best reaction to the stunning goal.
