THE worried family of an England fan, who hit the headlines when he travelled to Russia, leaving his match tickets at home, are appealing for any information on his whereabouts after not hearing from him for the past six days.

In a post on Reddit last night, user missbiscuitblues wrote: "We are trying to get in contact with my uncle - Douglas Moreton. He has been missing since Friday July 6. He went to Russia for the World Cup.

"He was last seen on the Friday July 6 in the Samara hotel on Sorokina Street 36, but we know he went to the McDonalds near there the following day. He was out there for the England game and was meant to be travelling back to Moscow by train.

"If anyone has seen him or has any information, please could you let me know. I am sorry if this is not the right place to post this, let me know if it needs to be taken down. Thank you.

"His bank card was used this morning in Moscow. We have not heard from him so if you do see him, can you ask him to contact us or family friend Terry."

He was said to have a slight "Bristolian twang".

Douglas had previously been in the spotlight after he travelled 2,000 miles to the World Cup Finals to cheer on the Three Lions, but managed to leave his tickets at home in Bristol.

His plight was highlighted by ITV News editor Dan Howells who met him in a hotel in Nizhny Novgorod ahead of the England match with Panama.

He tweeted:  "This is Douglas. He was at our hotel in Volgograd. We've just bumped into him in Nizhny Novgorod & he's realised he's left his match tickets in the drawer at home in Bristol.

"If anyone's got a spare on let me know. #EngPan".

The appeal was a success and Douglas got to see the match.

Posting on Facebook last night Darren Curry wrote: "Could we please ask everyone to keep eyes out for England fan Douglas Moreton.

"He was last seen in Samara and was meant to be in Moscow by now however he has not been in touch with family or friends and they are very concerned.

"If anyone does see him could they ask him to call his family or his friend Terry.

"If anyone in the group has any info or sightings could they please email [email protected] as she can liaise with the family or contact us so we can pass any information on. Thank you so much."

A Foreign And Commonwealth Office spokesperson said today: "We are in contact with the local authorities about the British man who has been reported missing in Russia."
