'SLOPPY DEFENDING'

World Cup 2018: England stars Danny Rose and Phil Jones blasted by ITV pundits after Belgium defensive horror show

The Three Lions suffered yet another defeat to Belgium with Roy Keane and Lee Dixon heavily criticising the defenders for their performances

ROY KEANE held nothing back as he hurled criticism at Danny Rose and Phil Jones following England's 2-0 defeat to Belgium.

The Three Lions defenders were the scapegoats after their poor displays allowed Thomas Meunier and Eden Hazard to score for the Red Devils during the World Cup third-place play-off.

Former Republic of Ireland ace Keane was in the ITV Studios to provide analysis after the 2-0 defeat with Rose and Jones taking the brunt of the blame.

The Manchester United legend said: "If you're making the same mistakes every week, it's going to continue. They are not going to change. Rose and Jones.

"Because they are not good at defending, they are not good defenders."

Tottenham left-back Rose failed to spot the run of Paris Saint-Germain's Meunier, who got on the end of Nacer Chadli's cross ahead of the England ace.

Jones was then shown to be  out of his depth as he failed to keep an eye on Hazard, as the Chelsea attacker slipped beyond the Three Lions defence to power past Jordan Pickford.

Keane was not the only pundit to voice his concern over England's performance, with Lee Dixon also weighing in.

The ex-Arsenal centre-back said: "It was early in the game. We looked tired, we looked sloppy.

"Roy's right, some of the defending that went on was really poor.

"Jones goes into midfield, following Hazard. When Jones goes in, he just wanders in. That leaves us short in the middle so they can't go tight."

It was a second defeat for England to Belgium, but the only positive remains that Harry Kane is in pole position to collect the Golden Boot award.
